Since 1964 the "National Championship Air Races" have been called the "Worlds Fastest Motor Sport" and one of the last venues where this could be organized was the city Reno in Nevada, USA. Soon the event became known and "Reno Air Races". The most exciting class today is the "Unlimited" class, where heavily modified WW2 Figher Planes run for a trophy. Historic names like "Dago Red', "Miss America", Strega" "Voodoo", and "Galloping Ghost" have all one in common: They base on the P-51 Mustang, the greatest Fighter Plane of All Times!!!

CARF-Models' P-51 Mustang has been around for many years and has proven its sturdiness, reliability and performance. So it was a natural consequence that one day we would look into building a true Reno Racer based on our proven P-51 airframe.

The STREGA is one of the most famous Reno Racers of all times. It is actively racing since the early 80s, rebuilt in 1999 it became the "Strega" we know today. This attractive white, red and blue color scheme with all the decals (various versions included in the kit) has always fascinated the model airplane enthusiasts. 

The STREGA has a completely new fuselage, with a removable canopy frame, the narrow and slim radiator under the wing and the extended wing fillets as seen on the photos. It fits all accessories of the regular P-51 Mustang and it has also the modified engine bay to accept the big Kolm 230 engine, besides lots of other choices, such as a DA-100 inline twin or similar. Prefabrication is as high as with our Galloping Ghost.

Like most of our fully detailed scale kits, we offer you an all-silver version to be the perfect base for a perfect finish.

Just put the colors you want over the silver coating and then beginn to scratch all the edges and pits through the paint, so that the silver base color will appear and give you a perfect illusion of a full-aluminum airframe.

After that, the weathering using airbrush techniques or all the other tricks of scale modelers will turn your airplane into a beauty. We prepared the perfect base for you - the all-silver P-51 Mustang has a fully detailed "museum scale" surface.

The P-51 D Mustang is one of the most famous fighter planes ever built. One of the best, too. CARF Models has dedicated a lot of time and research towards building a beautiful scale replica of this classic World War II fighter. It’s almost unbelievable that the CARF Models P-51 is in production since 1996. A natural evolution of the kit has brought a lot of improvements for the benefit of the modeler, and now, after almost a thousand planes made, it is still not lacking interest. After having stunned the warbird scene with our F4U-1D Corsair, produced in the newest CARF technology, we had no choice than giving our old faithful P-51 the facelift she deserves.
The P-51 is made all composite, has all surface details molded in and all composite parts are silver colored. The outer skin looks like the original aluminium, as the initial plug for the plane was covered with fully detailed aluminium sheets. The plane is one of the most scale warbirds available today.
 
For easy transport the wings and stabs are detachable. The long cowling covers engine, fuel tank and most RC equipment allowing easy access and maintenance. Currently it is only available as an all silver kit but watch out for painted versions in the near future.

The ARF version of our folding wing Corsair is in our opinion the way to go. Extreme value is added for affordable extra cost. A very complex plane with folding mechanics readily installed. All required hardware is included. On top of the usual kit prefabrication so much more is already done for you:

- all flaps with their offset hinges are readily installed.

- all control horns are installed

- cowling is factory installed

- stab is completely installed

- landing gear installation is prepared up to simply bolting the gear in place

- gear doors are all hinged

- tail gear former and servo mounts are installed

- folding mechanics and hinges are readily installed

For you left to finish are mainly installation jobs, such as:

- one glue joint fin attachment (not glued on for packing and shipping reasons)

- linkage, servo and other RC installation

- engine installation

- retract installation and final gear door cylinder installation

- wing fold hydraulic installation and plumbing

- canopy and cockpit installation

- final scale detailing and painting

All parts are detailed, silver painted composite components, light weight and not only “prefabricated” but really ARF’ed. Why bother with hundreds of building hours if you can get around it for as little upcharge as it is? A detailed instruction manual not only guides you through the remaining build, shows you how much work you’ve saved...

This kit is an ARF plus package where the gear, tank and thrust tube is factory installed. 

The important information is that all the good things have been kept. The perfect size, the ultimate strength, the great aerobatic capabilities, the wide speed range, the rugged construction. Also we commit to impressive, new schemes as always. Composite parts painted in the molds with  touched up seams as well as functional accessories have always been the key components for our Flash/Ultraflash, and will be in the future. 

However, there were still a few things which grew a little outdated over time. So nobody needed the receiver pack pockets in the wood structure anymore, where the bulky NiCd batteris would fit - neither the mount for the mechancial air valve. Even though it was a little sentimental when we actually got rid of it: 12 years of an un-paralleled success story eliminated.

But all the improvements in detail, the fine tuning of the successful design, make still a big difference and a great step forward. Of course pre-fabrication became even higher, we even offer an optional installation of electric retracts for you right in the factory.

We couldn’t be happier presenting another milestone in Model Aviation: The CARF-Models Extra 330LX 2.6m.

Even though this Extra 330LX seems to be very similar to its predecessor with just a longer canopy and a little bigger control surfaces, by no means this is the case. It is a completely new design, where almost nothing bases on something which had been done before. This Extra is a real REVOLUTION in the Large Scale Aerobatic Market, something never done before, something so special and so different that it was a real risk to start this project in the first plae - because many told us that what we were trying to do was impossible. Boy were they wrong! The CARF-Models 330LX is actually defying gravity and inertia.

We wanted to create a competition machine with all the advantages of a composite airplane like rigidity, durability, incredible stiffness, strength and an immaculate, 2K painted surface, but get rid of the disadvantages such as higher weight, more sluggish behavior, more inertia and CG problems with light enignes and long tail moments.

All this would be covered by facitiating the lightest way of attaching control surfaces and moving all servos as closely to the CG as possible. Even if that meant to move the elevator servos forward and the aileron servos in the fuselage. If you could plug every servo into the receiver without an extension lead, that meant that there's no way to move them closer to the CG, we thought. And that we did.

The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the greatest and most famous WW II fighters. It earned its fame in the legendary “Battle of Britain”. It was a light, very manoeuvrable fighter. Because its design history goes back to the early 30s. Many modifications and upgrades evolved from the prototype over the first prodution unit, the Mark I, up to Mark XXIV, built long after the war was over. The Mark IX (Mark 9) was one of the most famous, most often built versions with the old faithful 12 cylinder Rolls Royce Merlin engine.
 
CARF Models has decided to pick up an old “FiberClassics” project and revive a kit which was already designed and built in 1993, resembling a Mark V at this time. Modifications and refinements made the kit a state-of-the-art all composite Mk IX, matching precision, prefabrication and completeness with our newest warbird creations. It can be powered by a 60-80 cc single cylinder engine and it is currently only available as an all silver kit.

A Giant Scale, All Composite WWII Fighter Without Compromise.

After introduction of the Razorback version of our P-47 Thunderbolt, we successfully produced and sold an impressive number of highly prefabricated "Razorbacks". However, the demand for a "Bubble Top" never silenced. So, we looked at the amount of modifications required to convert the Razorback into a Bubble Top.

CARF Models has then built all new plugs of fuselage, canopy, canopy frame and dorsal fin, matching the full scale outline 100%. The dorsal fin is a separate part, so that you can produce both the earlier and the later versions of this version of the airplane. Vertical fin, stab, elevator and wings have been take over from the good old Razorback. All internal construction and equipment installation was directly copied into the new Bubble Top.

A Giant Scale, All Composite WWII Fighter Without Compromise.

There are two versions of the P-47 Thunderbolt out there, both very popular. One is the bubble canopy version, which had been created in the later days of the 2nd World War, so that the pilot had a better all-around view. But the real, characteristic Thunderbolt, built by the thousands, seen all over Europe during the war, was the so called “Razorback”. In homage to this historic aircraft, CARF Models has reproduced the P-47D “Razorback".

Basically, we have started out with a thorough research and a precise CAD design, bringing several drawings and plenty of photos into one authentic creation of lines and shapes. We sized it all around the Moki 250 radial engine, always keeping in mind to stay safely below 25 kg flying weight. This resulted in a wingspan of 280 cm, respectively a scale of 1: 4.5, and an overall weight of 22-24 kg, depending on the equipment used and the detail added.

Initially, due to the complexity of the aircraft and the experience with our F4U-1D Corsair, we will offer our P-47 as an ARF plane only. All parts are composite, with silver surface and panel lines and rivets molded in.

Basically, all composite parts are prefabricated to the highest possible level. It’s only left for you to install servos and linkages to the already installed control horns, and bolt on your engine. Lets show you through the contents of the ARF version, which will take your breath away.

A scale landing gear with pneumatic extending main struts, compression link for shortening during retraction, and a steerable scale tail gear is available as well as the almost scale sized, absolutely impressive 4 blade prop with our alu hub and 30” carbon blades.

Dominating a lot of today’s AirRaces, the Edge 540 has gained more and more popularity.  Unfortunately most model airplane manufacturers seem to only know the forward swept wings as the very defining feature of an Edge 540.  But that‘s not true. Many modelers are fascinated by its particular shape of the fuselage with the huge fin and the smooth cowling.
 
Well, another challenge for CARF Models to take on. We designed our brand new Edge 540 from the ground up. It’s definitely NOT an Extra with modified cowling and tail, as you can see so often... We used original drawings from the full-scale to create a solid model with modern CAD techniques.
 
The scale fuselage is very large, in particular compared to other 2.6m planes on the market today! The cowling is so wide that a regular 150 cc engine would fit under it. But of course, the smartest way will be a 120cc flat twin to keep the plane lightweight. For sure, you’ll get the best flight performance with that setup. A 85cc single cylinder engine with tuned pipe might be sufficient regarding the power, but you can get in trouble with the CG. Always remember, because of its particular wing geometry, it’s nearly impossible to become too nose heavy with this plane!
 
As of early 2014, the CARF Models Edge 540 has received a modification to its wings, adding skin hinged ailerons instead of the centre hinged ones, making them even lighter for better flight performance.

The "Racing Scheme Green" 

Hot stuff for a very hot plane! Here it comes, the Racing Scheme for our Edge 540 2.6m.

While the scheme itself is quite simple, we did some experiments with new and fresh colors. Oh yes, this will be a winner for sure. And because somehow it reminds a little of a racer, this scheme got its name. Have fun with it!

For over a decade the SU-31 has earned the reputation of being one of the best and most successful aerobatic aircraft of all times. Besides the naked facts, some just love it because of its looks, some just because of the huge cowl housing a round engine. Our 3m SU-31 represents all these qualities and the new, smaller version is building right on this legacy.
 
With 2.75m wingspan this aircraft is just that little bit bigger than a typical "100cc" aerobatic plane, and just that little bit smaller than giant the 3m machines which not everybody can transport and store so easily. The 2.75m wingspan has proven to be the golden compromise for many.
However, CARF-Models can offer this airplane also with a typical 2.6m wing, which makes it even more a pattern machine, perfectly suited for F3A-X. Almost „square“ dimensions will give any pilot the competitive edge over most of the pack. And if 3D flying is preferred, the 2.75m wing with its thick trailing edges is putting the model into action in any airshow or freestyle contest.
 
The choice is yours. You can‘t only chose between several standard or even custom color schemes, you can also choose the wing type, thus the flying style and competition performance. The CARF-SU-31 2.6m / 2.75m is another rule breaker and rule maker in its class.
 
As usual, with our SU-31 2.75m you get an extremely well prefabricated airplane. It is super-strong, yet light weight and well-engineered for the flying stresses in competition. Made for 100-120 cc engines, it will also house the 3W 114 four cylinder engine, which many favour in this class.
 
The average weight is going to be somewhere between 13 and 14 kg. For an over 2.5m long airplane a very impressive value. We know that weight wise we will never be able to compete with a super-light Chinese balsa airplane, but as soon as you have your first contest in somewhat windy conditions, you will know why our philosophy rules.  And if you look at your plane after 2 years of active flying, still looking like new out of the box, you will realize that all her wooden companions have vanished meanwhile. Also you’ll notice that our Sukhoi looks like a Sukhoi. It’s not an Extra with a round cowl and it’s not a Yak-54 where the designer had no clue how the full scale aircraft ever looked. It is an aircraft with the same looks, with the same character as the full scale. And still, it has all the tweaks and modifications we modelers think a successful contest plane must have to be competitive at highest levels. The CARF-Models SU-31 2.75, also with the shorter 2.6m wings, is a marvel in its class, a joy to build and to fly and a beauty to look at. It’s a plane where only you on the stick are the limit.

The black/yellow/red scale scheme has been picked by many of our customers for the 3m version. Because of that, we decided to offer our 2.75m (2.6m) plane with this scheme from stock.

The Sukhoi SU-31 is a single engine aerobatic aircraft that is very popular in airshows. It is a lighter and more powerful version of the Sukhoi SU-26. The Sukhoi SU-31 is the most agile and powerful aerobatic aircraft in production today, and once other manufacturers add performance to their flagships, Sukhoi usually has already raised the bar with new design features or more power. The full size aircraft is almost an all composite aircraft just like our model, since everything behind and outside the cockpit is composite instead of tubular steel, spars and ribs.
 
CARF-Models has looked at the SU-31 for quite some time, especially since our Yak-55 SP has been so popular in all sizes. A new “round cowl” airplane was needed, and we just didn’t want to jump on the Yak-54 hype, doing another one of these, as non-scale (thus not quite pretty) as all the others out there.
 
CARF-Models has gone a different route. We looked at the SU-31’s lines and came to the conclusion that with a slight stretch and a slight increase of side area behind the canopy, some repositioning of wing and stab, this plane could become even a better example of a perfect large scale aerobatic creation - maybe the best one out there after all.
 
The result is that the CARF SU-31 is still very scale, even though quite some modifications from the full size aircraft have been done. But we kept the characteristic details, the large round cowl on the slightly boxy rear part of the fuselage, the louvres, the large wing fillets... Just to make this airplane stand out from the masses. The CARF Models SU-31 is a real flagship aerobatic plane. It is an airplane of high individual value. So we do not stock too many of them in our warehouses. Most of our customers appreciate the fact that they can order custom schemes exactly to their liking, or simple Color swaps of existing stock schemes to their favourite colors. So, stocking standard schemes has proven to be not always very efficient. Please ask your Rep about the many options you have to order your very personalized CARF SU-31 today.

This "CARF Scheme Orange-Black" bases on the white/blue CARF Scheme, but we have picked a very different, but popular color combiation. It works well with a lot of logos of today’s RC brands, so that it can be enhanced with all kinds of graphics. And the bright orange is just the best color to show in a blue or cloudy sky.
